How to Hire the Right Alabama Carpenter in Huntsville
From time to time you may need an affordable carpenter in Huntsville AL to repair a door or window or to build a new deck. But what should you look for in a carpentry service? First of all you want a professional that is not only experienced and licensed but also pre-screened and certified for your protection. You want a skilled tradesman who offers a wide range of services and can handle any job, from building a gazebo to framing and finishing a new room addition. A skilled residential or commercial carpenter can be a one man shop or part of a larger home improvement company. But the most important consideration is to find someone who not only works in your area, but also has an excellent local reputation for quality service at reasonable prices. And for your convenience, you should be able to receive quotes for carpentry services either by phone, email or in person prior to making your decision. That way you will know how much the job will cost before work begins. So let’s take a look at a few things that you should consider before hiring a licensed carpenter in your area.
Selecting the Right Carpenter for the Job
Carpenters are highly skilled contractors who work primarily with wood. These tradesmen are usually licensed and offer a wide range of services related to carpentry and woodworking. Depending on the job, you may need a general carpenter or a finish carpenter. A general carpenter is a journeyman who is qualified to complete the majority of residential carpentry work. A finish carpenter however does the more intricate work, which may include cabinet and furniture making, joinery, and other more refined woodworking projects. So it is important when choosing a professional Huntsville AL carpenter that you select someone who is suited to the specific work you need completed and has the skills and experience to perform the carpentry work to your satisfaction.

Why Hire a Professional Local Carpenter?
“Carpentry” is a profession and a trade that is regulated and licensed by each State. It is generally not the type of work that you want to trust to someone who is a general handyman or a “Mister Fixit”. So when your porch needs mending or your staircase needs replacing, it is very important to enlist the services of a licensed Huntsville AL carpenter. Following are just a few of the advantages of hiring a skilled carpenter in your area instead of an unlicensed handyman.
- Carpenters can get the job done fast and to your satisfaction. When you need a new deck built or a new addition to your Huntsville AL home, you want someone who will begin the project promptly and complete the job professionally and on time. You also want someone who will guarantee their work and is licensed and insured for your protection.
- Carpenters have the experience and skill to handle any job. When it comes to woodworking, a carpenter has the ability to tackle any job. You don’t want a handyman who will be building a garage for the first time on your home, or a layman who doesn’t know the first thing about installing cabinets. Carpenters work as apprentices until they learn all of the skills required through experience to command the title of a Professional Huntsville AL Carpenter.
- Carpenters keep up to date on the latest trends in their profession. As licensed professionals, carpenters keep abreast of the latest developments in their trade. They take pride in their work and continually stay current on new tools and equipment as well as advanced techniques in carpentry. This guarantees that you will receive the most up to date service available when you hire a certified Huntsville AL carpenter.
- Carpenters develop long term relationships with their customers. It may seem like an intangible benefit, but once you find a professional licensed Huntsville AL carpenter that you trust, it only takes one phone call to address all of your carpentry needs. You will be in the company’s system for contact information as well as any previous services performed, and you will receive priority treatment as a valued customer. No need to find someone new the next time a stair railing needs replacement or a door needs to be framed and hung. And since you are in their data base you will receive any special promotions or incentives whenever they are made available to their customers.
More About Huntsville Alabama
Huntsville is a city located primarily in Madison County in the Appalachian region of northern Alabama. Huntsville is the county seat of Madison County. The city extends west into neighboring Limestone County and south into Morgan County. Huntsville's population was 180,105 as of the 2010 census. Huntsville is the third-largest city in Alabama and the largest city in the five-county Huntsville-Decatur-Albertville, AL Combined Statistical Area, which at the 2013 census estimate had a total population of 683,871. The Huntsville Metropolitan Area's population was 417,593 in 2010 to become the 2nd largest in Alabama. Huntsville metro's population reached 441,000 by 2014.
It grew across nearby hills north of the Tennessee River, adding textile mills, then munitions factories, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and the United States Army Aviation and Missile Command nearby at the Redstone Arsenal. The National Trust for Historic Preservation named Huntsville to its "America's Dozen Distinctive Destinations for 2010" list.
The first settlers of the area were Muscogee-speaking people. The Chickasaw traditionally claim to have settled around 1300 after coming east across the Mississippi. A combination of factors, including depopulation due to disease, land disputes between the Choctaw and Cherokee, and pressures from the United States government had largely depopulated the area prior to 1805. That year Revolutionary War veteran John Hunt settled in the land around the Big Spring. The 1805 Treaty with the Chickasaws and the Cherokee Treaty of Washington of 1806 ceded native claims to the United States Government. The area was subsequently purchased by LeRoy Pope, who named the area Twickenham after the home village of his distant kinsman Alexander Pope.
Twickenham was carefully planned, with streets laid out on the northeast to southwest direction based on the flow of Big Spring. However, due to anti-British sentiment during this period, the name was changed to "Huntsville" to honor John Hunt, who had been forced to move to other land south of the new city.
